Psilocybe tampanensis #16357

The Psilocybe tampanensis is a unique strain from the North American continent. Until today, this specie has been found only twice in the wild. The spores were only collected from one. So all spores available are related to this single specimen. It was found in September 1977 by Stephen Pollock and Gary Lincoff in Tampa, Florida. Since then, there have been no further sightings of the Psilocybe tampanensis. This specie was standing all alone by itself. The mushroom is not very big. They are 2 - 6 cm. long and 3 - 5 mm. thick. The spores have a purple-brown color. The Psilocybe tampanensis is also known as ‘the truffle’ or the ‘philosopher stone’. The Ps. tampanensis is, just as the Psilocybe mexicana, able to form sclerotia. The sclerotia grows underneath the mushroom throughout the substrate. It looks a little bit like a walnut.
